Rodutherm® W-PGA

Rodutherm® W-PGA

Chemical name Hydrogenated terphenylene and biphenyl/diphenyl oxide

Water, the best and most economical heat transfer medium, freezes at 0 °C and has a corrosive effect on many metals and alloys.
By mixing Rodutherm® W-PGA with water, lower operating temperatures can be achieved, the boiling point is raised, and at the same time, corrosion of metal systems is prevented.

The tried-and-true Rodutherm® W-PGA is an optimal fluid with additives that can be mixed with ordinary tap water for a wide range of applications. Adequate corrosion protection is achieved even at a glycol concentration of 30%.

Rodutherm® W-PGA can be used for the following applications:

  • Heating
  • Process Temperature Control
  • Underfloor Heating
  • Air Conditioning Systems
  • Defrosting Coolers
  • Heat Recovery
  • Solar Systems
  • Ice Production

Rodutherm® W-PGA is almost completely odorless and biodegradable. It is compatible with common elastomers such as EPDM, PE, PP, and SBR. Separate data sheets are available for its technical and physical properties. Rodutherm® W-PGA is free of amines and nitrites, which prevents the formation of nitrosamines.

Rodutherm® W-PGA is based on propylene glycol and has even better toxicity profiles than Rodutherm® W-PGA. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has universally recognized propylene glycol as a food additive in Part 182 of the FDA’s regulations on food additives.

Constant temperatures exceeding 170 °C lead to premature aging of Rodutherm® W-PGA. Therefore, for solar energy systems with a standstill temperature exceeding 170 °C, it is recommended to use the largest possible expansion tanks so that the heat transfer fluid can flow out of the collectors and be accommodated by the expansion tanks when the maximum standstill temperature is reached.
